Iron Cove Bridge is a site of congestion that the RTA would like to get off its books.
They have attempted to slip a network speed increase proposal under the public nose by characterising it as a bus proposal.
In order to achieve this they intend to remove the median strip in Victoria road around Rozelle and put an extra bridge on either the east or west side of the bridge. There are no plans to improve the cycling or pedestrian facilities
There ARE plans to remove bus stops making much of the "24 hour" bus traffic largely THROUGH traffic.
The community's position is to improve conditions for public and active transport so as to reduce the amount of cars on the road. The RTA figures are 1.2 passengers per car on this stretch, which is a ludicrous waste of resources. Hence the call for better public transport not extra roadspace.
The rally begins at King George Park, and goes across Iron Cove Bridge to Brett Park, Drummoyne.
Bring your bikes, your rollerskates, your sunscreen, hats, and your placards! This is just one of the big road projects that is taking fund away from public transport initiatives this year.
